Overview
Position: Porter for Services for the UnderServed (S:US) at the transitional shelter in Brooklyn. Location: St. John's Place, Brooklyn, NY 11213 Salary: USD $35,000.00/Yr. Program Location: St. John's Place Brooklyn, NY 11213 Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas within the facility, including floor care (mopping, sweeping, buffing, waxing), cleaning cafeteria and kitchen areas, bathrooms, emptying trash, sorting recyclables, wiping windows and walls, and cleaning stairways and/or elevators. Carry out minor repairs and building maintenance, including painting, plastering, repairing furniture, and maintaining fire safety equipment (smoke detectors and fire extinguishers). Exterior duties: snow and ice removal, upkeep of grounds (sidewalk maintenance, mowing, trimming shrubbery, landscaping), rodent removal, and other exterior maintenance tasks. Conduct periodic inspections of buildings, dorms, and offices for hazards, needed repairs, hygiene, and cleanliness. Inspect fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and sprinkler systems to ensure proper operation and regulatory compliance. Maintain building maintenance tools and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition. Launder bed linens, bathroom towels, kitchen towels, and other washable items used by consumers and staff. Wear and maintain SUS maintenance uniform in a clean and presentable condition at the start of each shift. Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification. Complete other tasks as deemed necessary by the House Manager, Program Director, or Assistant Director of Facilities. Work schedule may include some weekend and evening hours. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred. At least two years of building maintenance experience in a large residential/institutional setting, preferably with a population with special needs. Good interpersonal skills. New York State Driver’s License preferred. Benefits
