Position Purpose
The Scientist I will support ongoing research efforts in designing and evaluating antisense therapies for a diverse group of diseases. This position reports to a Principal Scientist in the Discovery Biology Group.
Key Responsibilities
Primarily responsible for designing, executing, implementing, and troubleshooting routine studies in collaboration with cross functional groups.
Independently design and execute molecular assays to identify preclinical drug candidates targeting disease genes.
Develop high-quality cell-based assays to inform disease target gene engagement.
Devise and test new strategies and technologies to modify gene expression in collaboration with colleagues.
Perform cell and molecular biology techniques such as RNA and protein isolation, RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, western blotting and other project-specific assays, as necessary.
Work with CRO laboratories and external collaborators to support internal studies.
Maintain accurate documentation of experiments in electronic lab notebook (ELN).
Analyze and interpret data independently.
Author reports and contribute to manuscripts and patents with assistance.
Present research findings at group, cross-functional team and lab meetings.
Act as a technical resource within own group/project team and collaborate with other interdisciplinary functions.
Required Skills & Experience
BS with 10 years post-graduate experience, MS with 6 years, or Ph.D. in cell or molecular biology or related field.
Experience in molecular biology, RNA techniques, and cell-based assays.
Previous work experience in antisense oligonucleotide-based target validation.
Experience in cell culture techniques with a variety of cells (experience in culture and differentiation of human iPSC to neuronal cell types is beneficial).
Work experience in therapeutic areas involving CNS or ocular disease is highly desirable.
Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills; experience using ELN is desirable.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Location
Bedford, MA. This position is onsite with an office setting based in Bedford, MA.
Travel
Approximately 5% travel.
