Detention Officer - Sheriff7s Office - Page (0925) role at Coconino County Arizona. This position is located in Page, Arizona and requires working 12-hour shifts. Responsibilities

Under limited supervision performs security work of routine difficulty in the supervision, care and welfare of inmates detained in the Jail facility; performs related work as assigned. Maintains the safety and physical security of the Jail facility. Responds to and manages emergency or crisis situations, using communication skills to resolve volatile situations. Responds to and manages life-threatening, potential life-threatening and hazardous situations. Manages housing units of up to 144 occupants. Controls, supervises and documents the movement and activities of inmates. Conducts inspections, searches (including pat-downs and strip searches) and security checks of inmate housing areas. Administers first aid including exposure to blood and bio-hazardous materials. Maintains detention records and performs routine receptionist and clerical duties. Works with detention statistics and computer data. Supervises the activities of visitors, support personnel and program volunteers. Conducts inventories of detention supplies and commodities. Distributes and collects all incoming and outgoing mail. Assists in securing firearms and ammunition in the gun locker. Conducts manual and automated criminal history checks. Examines and interprets court orders and release documents to determine correct court, housing needs and releases. Appears in court and/or hearings as a witness. Assists with the jail facility7s level of cleanliness per standards. Essential Functions

Essential functions include driving; standing and walking to work within the jail population on different levels; climbing stairs; working with and around other detention staff, administrative staff, inmates and the public; dealing with interruptions; vision, hearing, and dexterity needs for safety, computers, equipment and alarms; exposure to noises and odors. Minimum Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien. Must be 18 years of age at time of appointment. Must reside within Coconino County upon appointment. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED. Additional Requirements

Must obtain an Arizona driver7s license upon appointment and maintain it throughout employment. Must pass a written examination, interview board and physical agility test. Must complete background check, polygraph examination, medical examination and drug test prior to employment. Must not have a felony conviction within the last ten years or dishonorable military discharge. Must not have a misdemeanor conviction involving domestic violence within the previous five years. Must not have used marijuana within twelve months of hire or dangerous/narcotic drugs in the past five years for more than experimentation. Must complete a minimum of 240 hours of correctional training within twelve months of employment. This position is non-exempt from overtime and safety sensitive. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Working knowledge of report preparation and record keeping, standard housekeeping, human behavior and diverse backgrounds, search and restraint procedures, cash handling, security systems and detention facility policies. Knowledge of the judicial system, escalation and de-escalation of force, and basic bookkeeping. Ability to maintain records, supervise others, use computers and word processing software, understand English grammar and arithmetic, perform defensive tactics, analyze situations, and establish effective working relationships. Ability to respond calmly and decisively to emergencies, work rotating shifts, work safely, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Equal Opportunity
