Responsibilities

Operates and maintains VMFH simulation equipment, including computers, audio/visual equipment, simulators and other simulation lab equipment, under the direction of Simulation Center leadership and in conjunction with educators and faculty members.

Assists with the preparation for, and conduct of, simulation training experiences and other education offerings across VMFH in both simulation labs and for clinic/hospital settings.

Supports front-line team members, nursing students and residents with hands-on skills training and simulated “real-life” experiences to enhance confidence and provide real-time feedback on development of psychomotor, assessment, clinical judgment and diagnostic skills; helps improve technical/functional expertise, problem-solving and decision-making, and interpersonal/communication skills; contributes to improving the quality and safety of patient care.

Understands operation and function of different simulation technologies; extensive travel between VMFH facilities in Western Washington as required.

Essential Functions Include: Simulation Support, Setup and Operation.

Set up simulation sessions for course programs and assure equipment is ready.

Prepare manikins and equipment for simulations, including moulage, wounds, dressings, and tubing, to create realistic and safe scenarios.

Operate video recording and audio/visual systems for instructional recording and debriefing; assist with role-playing, props placement, and moulage to create realistic clinical settings.

Perform post-simulation activities including debriefing, cleaning facilities and equipment, and disposing of simulated fluids.

Assist instructors with delivery and practice of scenarios prior to formal simulations.

Stay current with research and trends in health sciences simulation, learning science and instructional technologies.

Technical Support and Training

Provide technical assistance, support and training to faculty, staff, and students in the use of simulation equipment as needed.

Assist faculty with the development of new skills modules.

Install new hardware and software on simulation equipment, perform upgrades as necessary; perform operational checks on equipment; interface with equipment manufacturers; consult with technical support; oversee scheduled maintenance.

Simulation Center Maintenance

Maintain a clean and safe learning lab environment, including supply room organization.

Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates; establish and manage inventory, asset tracking, and item checkout system.

Provide recommendations, within scope of position, for budgeting and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials.

Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning and repairing; ensure equipment is kept in good working order at all times.

Maintain record of repairs required and completed.

Other Duties and Administration

Provide general support for clinical education program needs as requested; assist with special projects or initiatives as needed.

Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems.

Qualifications Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Associate’s degree (or certified EMT) in health sciences or related field, and two years of related work experience in healthcare, higher education simulation, hospital simulation or similar setting.

Previous experience in a simulation lab operating and maintaining simulation equipment or as an EMT, Paramedic or related job is desired.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensure/Certification

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) is preferred.

Pay Range $30.78 - $45.78 /hour
