Overview Staff Accountant

OdySea Aquarium . The Staff Accountant assists the Controller in maintaining and controlling the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that include analytical work and a thorough review of financial records. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial accounting data in a variety of areas. This candidate must bring analytical and organizational skills to best support the accounting team.

Responsibilities

Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures.

Maintain fixed asset invoice files

Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions.

Maintain Vendor 1099 information to ensure prompt and accurate 1099 filing

Prepare bank reconciliations

Perform the processing of expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation

Manage the preparation of financial statements, ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of data

Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations to include Accounts payable aging, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.

Manage vendor credit applications and maintain Purchase Order processing system

Provide accounting support by converting data to the general ledger system, obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements, and reviewing financial information

Supports Controller with budget and forecasting activities.

Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.

Perform other duties as workload necessitates.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred with 3-5 years of accounting experience.

Experience with QuickBooks preferred.

Ability to organize, manage time and set priorities while meeting deadlines.

Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.

Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical And Medical Requirements

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug testing and background investigation.

Must be able to lift 25 pounds

Allergies related to animals or plants, which might interfere with the ability to work, must be controlled by medications or protective equipment.

Must be willing to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, which could include weekends and holidays.

Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Required to frequently talk and hear.
