Overview Electric Boat is seeking a Safety Representative to report to the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene. A Safety Representative's career path is as follows: Safety Representative, Safety Representative Senior, Safety Specialist, Safety Specialist Senior, and the highest, Safety Representative Staff Specialist. An employee's initial title and compensation will be determined based upon the selected candidate's experience and education. Employees assigned to work on second shift are entitled to a 7% shift differential to be added to base pay.

Responsibilities

Interfacing with all levels of management, production workers, and regulatory personnel

Conducting periodic surveillance of ships and facilities for safety deficiencies (including tracking and trending)

Review and assess various objective quality evidence (e.g., industrial hygiene sample data, training records, Material Safety Data Sheets for materials in use)

Observation of work to ensure hazards are addressed and proper procedure, tools, and PPE are being utilized

Providing oversight of contractor work both shipyard and non-shipyard, and identify and report deficiencies to the contracting organization

Participating in accident investigations, analyze safety and health data and develop recommended actions

Issuing written reports to management summarizing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions

Developing and revising safety and health training lesson plans

Providing safety and health training as necessary

Interfacing with off-shift safety and health personnel

Maintaining the EB Safety Manual and supporting the Contractors Health and Safety Manual to ensure compliance with OSHA and OHSAS 18001

Developing and issuing Hazard Communication and Safety Bulletins to provide timely and necessary information to the workforce

Conducting daily OSHA Recordkeeping in accordance with 29 CFR 1904

This position requires overtime as necessary, off-shift and weekend coverage, and travel on company business as necessary.

Additionally, the selected candidate will be an active member of the deck plate safety and industrial hygiene programs to address issues and concerns at an industrial defense plant and will work as a proactive safety professional by joining the Safety Team at Electric Boat.

Qualifications Required

High School diploma or GED

A Bachelor's, or above, degree in an Occupational Safety & Health field or 5 years or more of documented relative safety experience including hazard identification and mitigation in an industrial, heavy construction, manufacturing, or maritime environment

Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed

Position is for 2 shift, but the candidate must be flexible to work all shifts

Position may require business travel to other Electric Boat sites

Must currently hold or apply for and maintain a secret clearance through the Department of Defense

Preferred

BCSP Safety Certification (OHST, ASP, CSP)

Experience in a shipyard trade or construction environment

Experience conducting OSHA Injury & Illness Recordkeeping IAW 29 CFR 1904
