$41.44 - $67.44 per hour Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
Summary
The Lead Radiation Therapist provides leadership, training and guidance to lower-level staff, supports the Manager and performs complex and specialized radiation oncology work. Under the direction of the Manager, the Radiation Therapist Lead may develop training and provide orientation for new therapists and/or students, review and propose updates to procedure manuals and protocols, integrate new technical procedures and coordinate group projects. The incumbent also assists the Manager in identifying problems, recommending solutions and assisting in the improvement of technical and patient service programs. Therapists at this level are expected to have a thorough understanding and proficiency in the procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department. Required Job Qualifications
Required: Minimum of five (5) years of continuous clinical experience, two (2) years in a supervisory or senior level position preferred.
b. Valid Illinois State License in Radiation Therapy
c. Valid ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy
d. Valid BLS certification
Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree is highly desired.
Experience training other staff members
Experience in a specialty required
Must have proficient technical knowledge and skill set. This includes but is not limited to demonstrating efficient knowledge of all equipment operation, tools and procedures specific to assigned area. This also includes demonstrating the ability to effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal professional relationships with physicians, management, peers, patients, and their families.
Must convey a positive attitude and present a professional appearance.
Effective communication (both oral and written) skills sufficient to resolve conflicts, and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.
Must have sufficient organizational skills.
Proven customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues and conflict.
Strong initiative and the ability to work independently.
Demonstrates the ability and flexibility to effectively handle challenging and stressful situations and to balance and shift multiple priorities.
Must have the ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
Must have to ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information.
Must be proficient in the use of the Radiation Oncology Information Systems and software and Hospital Information Systems that integrate with the Department of Radiation Oncology, including, but not limited to: ARIA, EPIC, ExacTrac.
Responsibilities
Responsible for daily patient care and education.
Involves the patient and their family in care and care decisions, maintains patient confidentiality and modesty, and explains all treatment and imaging procedures.
Reviews schedule to confirm number of patients, imaging, and new patient starts.
Attentive to patient needs and concerns by monitoring responses to treatment and referring for appropriate management as needed.
Uses judgment in handling questions and telephone calls from patients and others, resolving or triaging as needed.
Manager Support and Operations
Assists the Manager in the efficient operation of the assigned clinical area, including developing daily work assignments, ensuring equipment operation and quality checks, providing floor supervision, and coordinating staffing and breaks.
Assists in scheduling (OT, Weekend, On-call) and performs QA procedures, troubleshooting, ordering inventory, and communicating equipment issues to appropriate parties.
Works with Manager to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems; provides input on practices and procedures; leads ongoing staff instruction.
Process and Quality
Ensures accurate start-up QA, chart checks, treatment delivery, image review, and EMR-related processes; oversees emergent case triage and scheduling with care team members; maintains EMR record integrity.
Maintains Time Out procedures and participates in QA program for treatment units and patient care.
Education and Professional Development
Orients new staff and students; assists in human resources activities and supports career growth opportunities; maintains professional memberships and participates in activities and committees.
Working Conditions
Must be prepared to work overtime, holidays and weekends as needed.
Works in a fast-paced environment with potential exposure to ionizing radiation, radioactive materials, and patients; physical demands include lifting and repositioning patients, continuous standing, and potential exposure to waste and disease.
