Overview Lead Electrical Engineer - Underground Transmission Line Design

Location: Multiple U.S. locations (remote/hybrid options may apply). Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies. This employee-owned company focuses on sustainable infrastructure and provides engineering, procurement, consulting and construction services.

The Opportunity In this role you will have the opportunity to:

Function as a technical lead engineer on underground transmission line projects.

Perform underground transmission line design, ideally with experience of trenchless installation methods.

Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.

Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors.

QA/QC on projects and mentor junior engineers.

Candidates willing to relocate may be considered.

The Team BV’s Energy & Process business supports generation, storage, transmission, and distribution of safe, reliable electric power. The team focuses on renewable energy and provides complete engineering, procurement, and construction services in areas including:

Substations

Overhead Transmission Lines

Underground Transmission Lines

Renewables Integration

HVDC/FACTs

Key Responsibilities Engineering Standards:

Continues to learn, stays current, and applies knowledge of departmental design guides, standards, codes, and BV policies to assigned tasks.

Quality/Continuous Improvement:

Applies BV quality program to tasks; may ensure compliance; mentors others on the project.

Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.

Engineering Production:

Prepares complex engineering deliverables and calculations; researches equipment/materials; manages budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

Leads data collection and may oversee small production teams or serve as the responsible charge for a project.

Project Coordination:

Coordinates with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.

Client Focus:

Identifies key client interests on less complex projects and communicates these to the team; may support business development.

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:

Recognized as a technical specialist with in-depth knowledge of an engineering process or industry aspects; designs complete projects of moderately complex scope.

People Management

(supervision, career development, training, mentoring):

Assists with performance management, mentoring, recognition, and corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications Preferred Qualifications

PE License

Underground utility experience — design methods and standards

High voltage design experience

Quality Assurance/Quality Control of transmission design projects

Strong written communications and leadership skills

Ability to drive results, set priorities, plan, delegate, and lead teams

Effective conflict management and listening abilities; capable of dealing with ambiguity and building effective teams

Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and relevant standards

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program

Minimum of 5 years related work experience

Pre-employment checks may include background, drug screen, and motor vehicle records as required by law

Work Environment Work Arrangement:

Hybrid or flexible options after 90 days based on manager discretion and assignments.

Certifications Licensure:

Most positions require professional registration or active pursuit of licensure in the home country or location of practice.

Salary & Benefits Salary range: $103,194.00 – $154,623.00.
