Job Description
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Wastewater Enterprise (WWE) operates and maintains San Francisco's wastewater system, including treatment plants, pump stations and related facilities. This position performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance/repair of a variety of Wastewater equipment and related system components. The incumbent will operate precision equipment and respond to trouble calls associated with Wastewater plant equipment and associated pump stations equipment. The work requires sustained physical effort and may involve working in confined spaces. After-hours work may be required due to staff shortages, safety requirements, or project needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, including mills, lathes, drills, saws, and CNC tools. Rebuilds, refinishes, modifies, and fabricates component replacement parts for pumps, valves, generators, cranes, compressors, pipelines, gear boxes, motors, bearings, bushings, shafts, and related items. Maintains and repairs instruments and mechanical equipment, including valves and castings. Diagnoses, installs, inspects, and tests machinery, parts, and equipment. Reads and interprets schematic drawings, blueprints, and plans. Prepares and maintains records documenting work performed. Dismantles and assembles light and heavy machines and equipment. Manufactures or fabricates parts based on samples. Performs related duties as assigned. Work Location

Experience Completion of a recognized four-year Machinist apprenticeship program and two years of full-time verifiable experience as a journey-level Maintenance Machinist performing duties equivalent to Job Code 7332 Maintenance Machinist (primary responsibility in maintenance/repair and machine tool operations). OR A combination of trade-related training (certificate program or military training) and full-time verifiable experience as a journey-level Maintenance Machinist performing duties equivalent to Job Code 7332 Maintenance Machinist (primary responsibility in maintenance/repair and machine tool operations) totaling six years. Notes on experience A. Trade-related training refers to programs such as machine tool technology programs. B. Experience solely as CNC/NC Machinist or Machine Operator without Manual Maintenance Machinist experience will not be considered qualifying. License and Certification Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver license. Substitution Completion of a CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards recognized Maintenance Machinist apprenticeship program may substitute for the six years of combined work experience.
