Overview Senior Electrical Engineer

— US Citizenship Required — 100% Onsite — Active Secret Clearance. This role involves field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for the electrical engineering aspects of projects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes, with recommendations to resolve technical issues and meet complex electrical engineering requirements.

This position is for a Senior Electrical Engineer located in Ogden, UT, who will prepare designs for electrical systems associated with DoD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and a desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Sentinel program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.

Major Responsibilities

Level I

– Evaluate, select, and apply standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria for a small project or assignment. Prepare original designs, layouts, details, drawings, and specifications.

Design, develop, modify, and evaluate components and processes used in generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity in accordance with Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).

Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.

Coordinate electrical engineering efforts with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.

Assist project and construction management in identifying and complying with electrical requirements and address issues during project execution.

Complete electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.

Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.

Level II

– Plan and conduct independent electrical work requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of techniques on a medium size project.

Lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of components and processes used in generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity per EDPs, design standards, guides, and BSAPs.

Develop conceptual designs for electrical projects with specialized or unique requirements.

Support preparation of estimates, staffing needs, and schedules.

Prepare or oversee discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget; support performance reporting.

Coordinate with client representatives to obtain approval of electrical aspects of the work.

Support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations in accordance with procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.

Mentor junior electrical engineers and collaborate with other technical disciplines in a team environment.

Develop new design drawings using AutoCAD (single lines, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and more).

Perform power system analyses with ETAP (Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Relay Coordination, Arc Flash).

Other facility calculations include lighting design (AGI 32), ground grid sizing (ETAP), and underground cable thermal de-rating (ETAP).

Perform equipment sizing calculations for transformers, panel boards, surge protective devices, UPSs, and battery sizing.

Perform circuit breaker and cable sizing calculations per NFPA 70 with de-rating factors.

Develop equipment and material specifications using SpecsIntact.

Develop procurement documentation and perform supplier proposal evaluations; review vendor submittals and integrate information into the design.

Coordinate systems requirement development and verifications with systems engineering and the client.

Education and Experience Level I:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Must be a United States Citizen.

Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Level II:

Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Must be a United States Citizen.

Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Relevant experience includes drawings, calculations, and specifications for electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.

US citizenship is required per contract requirement.

Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

Experience with Microsoft Office and other common computer programs.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.

Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and strong knowledge of electrical systems for responsibilities listed above.

Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.

Strong knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Level I:

MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with 6-8 years of relevant experience.

Level II:

MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with 8-11 years of relevant experience.

Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Electrical Engineering).

Experience with ISO-9000 quality assurance programs.

Experience with government agencies, preferably DoD.

Experience with Smartplant 3D and ETAP calculations.

Understanding of mechanical and process engineering drawings as related to electrical design.

CSI MasterFormat specifications or SpecsIntact experience.

Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
