Overview
Ascent Hospitality is looking for a uniquely qualified hospitality leader to join our team as a Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of the overall hotel operation. This position manages the Maintenance Staff, ongoing preventative maintenance projects, renovations, plumbing, painting, sheetrock work, electrical and carpentry. This role may work with contractors to coordinate renovations, remodeling projects and new construction. It may also oversee custodial work as necessary while providing optimum service and satisfaction to hotel guests, and ensures security and liability measures to protect the assets of the hotel and the Company. Ensure a smooth operation and guest experience Monitor compliance with state building codes and regulations, OSHA safety codes, and evacuation procedures per Fire Department standards Recruit, interview and assist in selecting prospective employees (Engineers, Laborers, Painters, Carpenters), evaluate performance and recommend discipline or rewards Direct maintenance and operation of all equipment on the property (refrigeration/air conditioning, fire alarm system, boilers, power systems, emergency generators) Comply with mission and standards of hotel maintenance Direct maintenance staff and assign tasks Operate within budget and labor expenses Oversee aesthetics of the building exterior and interior; coordinate remodeling projects; schedule labor and materials Identify maintenance issues and initiate work orders Report and follow up on deficiencies; complete work orders and repairs Perform preventive maintenance and maintain mechanical logs Ensure correct use of office equipment, EMS system, and Life Safety Systems Resolve guest issues and handle guest requests in line with hotel standards Coordinate hotel emergency procedures with general manager and Corporate Director of Engineering; assist in developing emergency plans, conducting drills, and training staff on emergency systems and equipment; schedule regular inspection and maintenance of emergency equipment Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of building management Experience installing/troubleshooting electrical switches, operating boilers, and repairing appliances Understanding of Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Life Safety systems Stay current with technology advances that enhance hotel operations Physical Demands
Regularly able to walk, climb, bend, lift, push/pull; work in noisy locations with variable temperatures Able to operate in mentally and physically stressful situations Qualification Standards
College degree or related engineering coursework preferred Vocational training/certifications in HVAC, plumbing, carpentry 3+ years hands-on experience Hotel experience preferred Knowledge of hotel operations; leadership and communication skills EEO Employer
