A global engineering and construction company in the offshore energy sector is seeking an experienced Lead Structural Engineer (Topside) to join its Houston team. This role will take ownership of the topside structural design scope for a major deepwater floating production project, from FEED through detailed design and fabrication. The ideal candidate is a senior-level structural engineer with hands-on experience in topside module design, fabrication planning, and class-approved deliverables, ready to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team in a technically challenging environment. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate topside structural design activities across all project phases — from conceptual and FEED to detailed design and construction. Review and approve project documentation including construction specifications, execution plans, equipment data sheets, and bid packages. Review and validate design sketches, calculations, and drawings, ensuring compliance with codes, class, and client requirements. Direct and mentor a team of engineers responsible for verification and validation of structural deliverables supporting fabrication and construction. Conduct technical discussions with internal teams (stability, mooring, general design, and weight control), as well as subcontractors and consultants, to resolve design and interface issues. Liaise with classification societies, owners, and regulatory authorities to ensure design compliance and obtain approvals. Formulate welding plans, NDT plans, structural categorization, and tank test plans for topside structures. Perform and review constructability assessments using 3D models and detailed design drawings. Generate and manage progress and technical reports, supporting project execution and design assurance. Coordinate the flow of structural design information between topside, hull, and marine engineering teams to maintain full project integration. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Naval Architecture Engineering (Master’s preferred). Minimum 10 years of experience in offshore structural engineering, specializing in topside module design. Proven background working on FPSO, FPU, or Jacket structures within EPC or EPCC environments. Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, SACS, STAAD, or other industry-standard structural analysis tools. Strong understanding of offshore structural codes and standards (AISC, API, ABS, DNV). Familiarity with material selection, take-off, and procurement for topside structures. Demonstrated ability to lead design reviews, coordinate multi-discipline deliverables, and ensure class-approved documentation. Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills.
