Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Estimator to join our team at our Norcross, GA office. This role is critical in helping PCM secure profitable projects, ensure competitive bids, and maintain our commitment to excellence in mechanical contracting. Position Summary The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for HVAC and plumbing projects. This includes analyzing specifications, drawings, proposals, and other documentation to prepare estimates and bids. The Estimator will collaborate with the Preconstruction, Project Management, and Operations teams to support the successful execution of projects from pursuit through handoff. Responsibilities
Review and interpret plans, specifications, and other project documents. Prepare detailed estimates for HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Analyze and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure accurate pricing. Identify value engineering opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality. Develop conceptual estimates during the early design phases and update them throughout the design progression. Proposal Development Support the creation of competitive bids and proposals for clients. Collaborate with business development and project teams to align bids with customer expectations. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed. Work closely with project managers and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to execution. Provide detailed cost breakdowns and clarifications to field and operations staff. Track historical project costs to refine future estimates and improve accuracy. Stay updated on industry trends, material pricing, and labor market conditions. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors. Recommend improvements in estimating systems, tools, and processes. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred). 3–5+ years of estimating experience in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical contracting. Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and estimating practices. Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, Accubid, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple bids/projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
