Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer - Buildings role at WSP in the U.S. in the Dallas, TX office. This is a full-time position with the Property & Buildings Team in a team-focused local office within a large world-wide engineering firm. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and contribute to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves their challenges. Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector. Assist with research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, and protection and control systems across utilities, transportation, buildings, and Federal, State, and local government projects. Substantiate reports and documentation regarding material, installations, components, and construction specifications. Ensure responsibilities are delivered with quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Oversee complex new construction, renovation, and electrical infrastructure projects including review and approval of electrical infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques for project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation. Plan and incorporate future-ready techniques, operating strategies, and various electrical design requirements. Prepare and review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, short circuit study, overcurrent protective device coordination, one-line diagram development, and protective relaying. Lead MEP engineering projects including preparing and overseeing project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, supervising subcontractors, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, and technical calculations. Develop and review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and update electrical infrastructure layout plans requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, concepts, and recommendations. Provide guidance and leadership to project team members with strict adherence to QA/QC. Remain current in latest electrical engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects. Engineer in Training Certification. Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, and application to permitting and project work-related issues. Knowledge of electrical engineering standards and codes (NEC), building codes (ICC), and energy codes (IECC). Ability to utilize innovative analytical techniques in solving complex technical problems. Coordinates and manages tasks within larger projects. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work. Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and the ability to present ideas effectively to engineering and non-engineering audiences. Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Proficiency with technical writing and discipline-specific design software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to testing results and data analysis. Ability to direct subcontractors and others to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Works toward developing solid client relationships. Team player – responsive, reliable, and collaborative. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and anti-harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
