Senior Plumbing Engineer
for our
Dallas, TX
office. This position is best suited for an engineer who is seeking an opportunity to work within a team-focused local office, for a large world-wide engineering firm. Career development, mentoring and employee satisfaction is key within our local MEP group and the firm. Responsibilities include the research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of plumbing systems, fire suppression and protection, and fluid flow equipment, systems, and processes on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in the public and private sector. Substantiates reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, data reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Perform professional plumbing engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, and usage; install plumbing, fire protection and suppression, and fluid flow systems to conform with applicable rules, standards, and permits. Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update infrastructure layout plans with coordination among owners, architects, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems; implement future-ready solutions with plumbing design standards. Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects; assist with installing equipment, calculating costs and quantities, and ensuring conformance with specifications, permits, schematics, and regulatory documentation. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for interpretation or presentation of data and analyses. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects. Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers. Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain research, findings, and recommendations to address design and/or construction issues or opportunities. Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data from site investigations, contributing to action plans for moderate- to high-risk installations and operations. Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Comply with regulatory requirements for data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring, and record retention. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, architects, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Remain current in the latest plumbing engineering techniques and practices. Work collaboratively with other engineers, architects, and building authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline. 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior plumbing and mechanical design experience. Engineer in Training Certification. Proficient knowledge of plumbing and mechanical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to project work. Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; involvement in rehabilitation and new design projects. Working knowledge of relevant plumbing and mechanical codes and regulations. Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans and specifications against regulations. Project management experience with small to mid-sized projects including tracking hours and expenses. Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on facilities design and construction per applicable policies. Effective interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences. Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members, with QA/QC adherence. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, technical writing, and relevant software/tools. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to data and calculations. Ability to direct others in the field to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP policies. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Engineering. Essential Professional Licensure/Certification. Experience managing small to mid-size projects. LEED AP Certification. Healthcare experience.
