Overview

Working closely with the Director of Community Perioperative Nursing and Operations, you will be responsible for assisting with clinical management and administrative coordination of the GI/Medical Procedure unit (MPU) and/or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This position combines clinical (direct care) and administrative responsibilities. This role requires outstanding communication and critical thinking skills, a strong clinical background and knowledge to orient and train staff. You will orient, supervise, and evaluate registered nurses, surgical processing instrument technicians, GI techs, and medical assistants. You will oversee hiring, training, and evaluation of staff, develop policy and procedure, and ensure that sterilization practices are compliant with State, Federal, AAAHC, and Joint Commission guidelines. This role requires travel within Community MPUs/ASCs at UCLA Health. Salary Range: $128,500- $298,100 Annual Responsibilities

Assist with clinical management and administrative coordination of the GI/MPU and/or ASC. Orient, supervise, and evaluate registered nurses, GI techs, surgical processing instrument technicians, and medical assistants. Oversee hiring, training, and evaluation of staff; develop policies and procedures; ensure sterilization practices are compliant with State, Federal, AAAHC, and Joint Commission guidelines. Travel within Community MPUs/ASCs as required. Qualifications

Current, active California Registered Nurse License Current BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross BSN required, MSN preferred Minimum of 3 years management/supervisory experience Minimum of 3 years GI experience Skill in reading and interpreting comprehensive medical procedures and conveying information clearly to patients and families Ability to work independently to complete multiple complex tasks with rapid changes in priorities Strong organizational and supervisory skills to facilitate a busy procedural environment Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure Ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with tact and sensitivity at all levels Ability to deal effectively with patients, physicians, technicians, and other staff members Ability to serve as a lead person to patients, physicians, technicians, and staff Demonstrates ability to create and maintain professional, cooperative, and respectful working relationships with staff, physicians, technicians, patients, and all UCLA staff Experience with patient electronic medical records Skill in setting and recognizing priorities; ability to react and lead in medical emergencies and evacuations Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a variety of individuals Willingness to provide individualized services to patients Ability to work overtime when necessary and provide backup support during absences Ability to work independently, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate in support of ASC and/or Endoscopy area/GI Lab objectives Knowledge of pharmacology/drug interactions/side effects PC proficiency in Windows environment and with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Email Experience in directing, teaching, and supervising nursing/medical personnel Ability to travel between procedure units in the Community as needed Ability to assist physicians in performing procedures in Endoscopy area/GI Lab and/or ASC with medical and surgical asepsis at all times Knowledge of care areas specific to Endoscopy/GI Medical Procedure Unit and/or ASC, including conscious sedation, and knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia identification Highly Preferred
