Research Technologist 1 - Transgenic and Targeted Mutagenesis Lab

at Northwestern University. The Core facility, Transgenic & Targeted Mutagenesis Laboratory (TTML) at Feinberg School of Medicine, is looking for a highly motivated individual to support the core’s operations in generating, characterizing and preserving mutant mouse strains. The mouse lines generated are used by research labs across Northwestern and beyond to study development, understand disease mechanisms, and contribute to cures for various diseases. The role is suitable for a detail-oriented, organized individual who enjoys learning, teamwork, and independent work in a newly opened facility located in downtown Chicago near Lake Michigan. NEX/9 Target hiring range:

$18.42-$23.02 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Job Summary

Conducts tests and procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab; requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques. Responsibilities

Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic troubleshooting techniques. Sets up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment. Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities: Molecular Biology

— DNA, RNA, protein isolation, purification and expression; Southern, Northern, Western blotting; PCR, RT-PCR; plasmid preparation; cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA; recombinant virus production and purification. Cellular Biology

— cell culture, cell isolation; functional studies; transfection. Histology

— tissue fixation/processing, embedding, sectioning, staining; immunohistochemistry; microscopy. Immunology

— flow cytometry; ELISA, Elispot assay; cytokine assay; antibody production and purification. Animal

— husbandry; breeding and screening transgenic mice; dissections; blood collection; surgical procedures; database management of colony; records test results and may maintain databases. Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.; maintains inventory of reagents, mice and lab supplies. Minimum Qualifications HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses required. Benefits
