(CLS) Clinical Lab Scientist / Spec, Per Diem - 136146

UC San Diego Health Overview: Per Diem position supporting the Rapid Response Lab at Jacobs Medical Center, Moore’s Cancer, and other outpatient areas. A CLS performs patient testing and works in subspecialty areas of the laboratory including Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Blood Gas, under general supervision.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing; evaluates test results; performs and evaluates quality control procedures; performs preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.

Provides laboratory services in a timely manner and delivers excellent customer service. Serves as a technical resource for customers and other staff. Adheres to all safety policies. Performs other related CLS functions as required.

Note: Depending on experience, the position may be hired at the CLS or CLS Specialist level.

Minimum Qualifications

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).

Strong math skills.

Manual dexterity.

Demonstrated ability in teaching, critical thinking and problem solving.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

Professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience with SoftLab LIS and Epic.

Experience with automated instrumentation Iris IChem/ IQ, GEM4000, TEG, and Roche Cobas.

Generalist skills in Hematology / Chemistry.

Special Conditions

Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and at various locations as necessary in accordance with operational needs.

Pay Transparency and Equal Opportunity Pay range: $70.03 hourly (minimum and maximum may be prorated based on appointment percentage).
