Overview

Pay Schedule I, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week. A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Engineering & Construction, Structures Design Division. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Current and future vacancies occurring within this class may be filled from the list of eligible applicants. All interested transfer and promotional candidates must apply at this time. Under general supervision, performs subprofessional engineering and related work and works closely with design engineers to maintain and improve the inventory of transportation structures, including but not limited to the following: Field-inspects and assesses the condition of roadway and pedestrian structures and retaining walls. Monitors and coordinates with on-call contractors for structure repair and maintenance. Investigates records and site conditions for constituent inquiries. Assists in the design and development of construction projects including performing calculations, producing sketches, maps and construction drawings, developing man-hour, material, quantity and construction cost estimates, submitting permits, reviewing consultant and contractor invoices and preparing contract documents. Produces as-built markups of construction drawings. Reviews private development plans to identify conflicts with existing or planned County infrastructure and ensure compliance with County requirements for structures. Reviews bridge inspection reports and evaluates documented conditions and defects. Reviews and interprets construction drawings. Participates in meetings in the office and on-site with design engineers, engineering consultants, permitting agencies, construction inspectors and construction contractors. Prepares correspondence, reports and records. Examples of Other Duties

Performs other related duties as required. Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent. Plus Six years' subprofessional engineering experience. (Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to maximum of four years for the required experience.) Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education Applicants are required to submit proof of license(s), certification(s) and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification is essentially sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, and other limited physical activities including travel to various work sites.
