Overview
Structural Engineer role at GEI Consultants, Inc. in Rancho Cordova, CA. The California Water Resources practice is growing; the candidate will also support GEI’s companywide Structural/Geo-Structural practice. The role involves inspection, evaluation, design, and construction observation of hydraulic structures including dams, spillways, outlet works, gates, water conveyance structures and pump stations. Strong design experience with steel and concrete, and a solid theoretical background with experience applying analyses to practical solutions (including linear and nonlinear finite element modeling) under static and dynamic loading is preferred. Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering to assist in soil/structure interaction elements is a plus. The selected candidate will work with GEI’s senior leadership in the Rancho Cordova office and elsewhere. Responsibilities
Manage small to medium projects within technical specialty Structural analysis and design of hydraulic structures related to dams, flood control, hydroelectric facilities, and other water resource projects Typical structures include spillways, outlet works, canals, storm drainage facilities, flood walls, and pump stations Collaborate with senior project managers and technical staff across the company Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters and memoranda Prepare and review design calculations, permit documents, and reports Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and bid documents Assist with the development of project plans, schedules and budgets Assist with the preparation of proposals to provide professional services and support other GEI offices with proposals and the delivery of professional services Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering; M.S./Ph.D. preferred 5-10 years of professional experience in Civil Engineering and Water Resources related fields Licensed Professional Engineer in California or ability to obtain within one year of hire Strong theoretical background in earthquake/seismic engineering and finite element modeling with expertise in SAP2000 and LS-DYNA/ANSYS Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere Willing to travel to site locations, on temporary assignments as necessary as-needed, including field assignments Valid driver’s license Benefits / Total Rewards
