Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Grants Writer to join our Development team. This role will focus on securing funding from foundations, corporations, and local government sources. The Grants Writer will lead the creation of proposals and reports, maintain strong funder relationships, and ensure all grant activities are compliant and strategically aligned with organizational goals.
This position works closely with the Director of Corporate Partnerships and supports the broader development strategy to grow institutional funding and support long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Strategy & Management (50%)
Develop and manage a pipeline of grant opportunities from identification to submission and reporting.
Coordinate with program and finance teams to prepare budgets, timelines, and required documentation.
Ensure all deadlines for proposals and reports are met and all submissions comply with grant requirements.
Maintain accurate records of grants and prospects using Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Proposal Development (30%)
Research and identify institutional funding opportunities aligned with strategic priorities.
Draft compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), budgets, and related materials.
Collaborate with internal teams to gather data, stories, and programmatic information.
Ensure proposals reflect equity and inclusion values and align with impact goals.
Funder Cultivation & Stewardship (15%)
Support the cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective institutional funders.
Assist in coordinating site visits, funder engagement opportunities, and recognition efforts.
Collaborate with communications and development teams to report on outcomes and impact.
Administrative & Compliance (5%)
Track and report expenses related to grants in coordination with Finance.
Submit timecards, mileage, and expense reports in compliance with organizational policy.
May supervise volunteers, interns, or temporary staff supporting grants-related functions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in grant writing and foundation relations.
Skills & Abilities
Strong written communication and editing skills with proven grant writing success.
Experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Proficiency in fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and measure outcomes.
Collaborative, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel locally and work occasional evenings/weekends as needed.
Valid CA driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
Work Environment
