Department: Public Utilities Commission Job class: 7323-Heavy Duty Mechanic/Automotive Machinist Salary range: $128,232.00 - $128,232.00 Hours: Full-time Appointment type: Temporary Exempt (duration not to exceed 36 months; excluded from competitive Civil Service examination) Responsibilities

Under general supervision, perform skilled machinist work in maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy-duty and off-road vehicles and power-driven equipment (diesel trucks, buses, firefighting vehicles, compressors, generators, graders, backhoes, tractors, small engines, electric motors, etc.). Design, fabricate and weld parts; maintain records of mileage, service/repair logs, and parts/orders. Respond to emergency calls and may attend on-site breakdowns; may tow vehicles. Inspect, test and review vehicles and equipment as part of the preventive maintenance program. Diagnose malfunctions using test equipment, manufacturers’ specs and repair manuals (in shop or field) to determine repairs. Order supplies, parts and materials; drive city vehicles and operate equipment to diagnose malfunctions and conduct final inspections of work completed. Perform other related duties as assigned to Class 7323. What you will learn about the role

Role location: Millbrae Yard, 1000 El Camino Real, Millbrae, CA. Typical hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Exam). Experience: A total of six (6) years of journey-level experience and/or apprenticeship training as an automotive machinist or heavy-duty mechanic, including: disassembly, repair, overhaul and installation of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic assemblies in heavy-duty/off-road vehicles and power-driven equipment; use of machine tools (valve re-facers, hydraulic and drill presses, lathes, grinders). License: Possession of at least a Class C (or III) driver license at time of application; ability to obtain Class A (or I) driver license with Medical Certificate within twelve (12) months of appointment. Failure to maintain required license may be cause for termination. Experience Substitution: Completion of a CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards recognized Automotive Machinist apprenticeship program may substitute for six years of experience. Desirable Qualifications

Valid Class A driver’s license Experience with heavy-duty diesel equipment Experience using Maximo or similar maintenance software Other Information
