At GHD we are looking for a new
Senior Mechanical Engineer
to join the Engineering Design team at our Houston or Baton Rouge office. In this role you will make decisions and recommendations recognized as authoritative and have important business impact on extensive engineering activities in planning and designing tools, as well as installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment. Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements performing feasibility studies, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities. Conceive, develop, and evaluate plans and criteria for broad areas of considerable novelty and importance that are regarded as major advances in the field. Solve a variety of unique and complex engineering problems. Assess feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions. Act as an expert and authority in the company in a broad area of specialization. Be part of the dynamic culture!

Perform as a Mechanical Lead for different Oil & Gas projects. Ensure the mechanical deliverables list satisfies the contracted scope of work to be executed. Analyze client RFPs, technical specifications and requirements in terms of mechanical and piping engineering principles and requirements. Prepare budgets and schedules for input into proposals. Prepare mechanical and piping system designs, calculations, specifications and reports. Coordinate, supervise and provide detailed mark-ups to designers to prepare 3D models and drawings. Communicate the impact of modifications into the projects and escalate concerns regarding schedules or material lead times. Prepare hydraulic, transient and stress analyses of critical piping systems. Prepare progress reports for the mechanical discipline on assigned projects. Review, and mark-up contractor and supplier submittals and shop drawings. Coordinate / Review PFDs, P&IDs, piping plans, site layouts and interact with other discipline teams to achieve project objectives within the assigned budget and schedule. Coordinate / Review Pipe Stress Analysis results and pipe support design; ensure these are included into piping deliverables and 3D models. Complete QA/QC reviews and peer reviews within the mechanical discipline. Provide PE Stamp to submission packages of the mechanical discipline. Ensure technical communication is clear and well understood by partners across different levels of management. Communicate and interface regularly with clients as well as vendors and contractors. Perform as the Regional Design Discipline Lead (RDDL) by collaborating with the Americas Design Discipline Lead to continuously develop and improve standards, specifications, templates and technical procedures. Prepare / Review mechanical engineering calculations, specifications, data sheets, requisitions for equipment, materials, and subcontracts. Prepare / Review lists (equipment, valve, piping, tie-in, and specialty items). Mentor and guide junior engineers, less experienced team members, and high-value engineering partners. Support onsite construction and commissioning by addressing technical questions and resolving issues in real time. Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on mechanical and piping design, ensuring compliance with ASME, API and ASTM codes. Continuously improve project workflows and standards to ensure consistent, high-quality designs for mechanical and piping. Engineering Solutions Design: design engineering solutions and validation processes to meet design briefs in terms of functionality, performance, and cost; conform to standards. Engineering Standards Specification: analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate their effectiveness within the discipline. Technical Developments Recommendation: discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve quality of designs. Professional Supervision: lead and oversee professional supervision to support practitioners’ development. Feasibility Studies: conduct complex feasibility studies and document findings to inform cost-benefit analyses. What You Will Bring To The Team
Education
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the state of Texas or Louisiana. Experience
Minimum of 15 years of experience in Oil & Gas industries and others including water, wastewater, storm water, renewable natural gas, hydrogen, agricultural, food and beverage, power generation, co-generation and industrial facilities. Experience in gas handling, compression, and treatment systems for natural gas and/or landfill gas; hydrogen handling, blending and storage for Future Energy projects is a plus. In-depth knowledge of ASME piping codes (B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8), ASME Section VIII Div 1, ASTM, API, and others. Familiarity with BIM 360, AutoCAD Construction Cloud, Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Navisworks or similar 3D coordination tools. A strong foundation in piping or vessel engineering with a demonstrated ability to apply first principles to solve complex design and field challenges. Experience with Caesar II pipe stress analysis and related guidelines is a plus. Experience with equipment engineering and design including Brownfield and Greenfield projects, and large-scale processes. Experience with the following environments: large-scale chemical production, engineering, procurement, and construction firms.
