Overview
Perform all the functions of a Ships Safety Watch (SSW), CASCON Operator and Dept. 272 Point of Contact (POC) in accordance with NAVSEA 0905-485-6010 Manual for the Control of Testing and Ship Conditions and all local Shipyard Standard Procedures (SSP), Multi-Department Directions (MDD), and Single Department Directions (SDD). Responsibilities
Maintain a continuous patrol of the ship, topside and below decks, and the areas adjacent to the ship. Maintain Ship Safety Watch Logs and report all violations of prescribed procedures or other abnormalities pertaining to ship security, safety, and watertight integrity. Immediately report hazardous conditions (such as changes in draft, trim, or list). Monitor for smoke, fire, abnormal temperatures, leaks in ship or temporary service systems, door, hatch, and passageway clearances (including quick disconnects on cables, hoses, or lines), proper placement of fire extinguishers with up-to-date weight inspection records, and indicators such as air bubbles below the waterline and safety draft marks; monitor trim and list. In the event of a fire or flooding, report the casualty and, after reporting, take action to control or limit the spread of fire and/or flooding in accordance with procedures. As a CASCON operator, operate the Shipyard CASCON system, including sounding alarms and making public address announcements for casualties and other announcements per written procedures. Communicate with EB’s emergency response organizations, Ships Management, and Ship's Force on a regular basis. As Department 272 POC, be available in the shipyard to respond to problems related to Ship Safety when a Ships Safety Officer is unavailable. Patrol the shipyard and review SSW and Roving Security Patrol logs for unusual occurrences. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED 2–10 years of experience in work and/or testing involving submarine ship systems or hold a Navy qualification in submarines as a minimum per requirements. Knowledge of compartment characteristics, tank layouts, accesses, and shipyard regulations, instructions, and orders pertaining to the security, safety, and watertight integrity of the assigned ship. Knowledgeable in shipyard tagout procedures in accordance with SSP 7.39 Working knowledge of Watertight Integrity Permits (WIP), High Risk Evolutions, Safety Plan of the Day (SPOD), drills, and the associated SSPs and DIs Preferred
Qualified in Submarines Skills
Ability to complete Electric Boat 6010 School Ability to complete qualifications as a Ship Safety Watch and CASCON operator per department qualification card Physical Qualifications
