The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes across a 2,000 square mile watershed, extending 125 miles north and west of NYC. Under the direction of the Director of Field Operations, with broad latitude for independent judgment, the selected candidate will serve as Chief of Maintenance and Repair in the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations. Responsibilities include overseeing complex activities related to maintenance of watercourses and sewage systems across Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, managing emergency shutdowns of large water mains, coordinating personnel and resources during water main breaks, sewer failures, floods, and other emergencies. The role also involves investigating water and sewer complaints, developing operational procedures, and managing capital vehicle procurement and contracts, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards. ***ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE TITLE OF ADMINISTRATIVE ENGINEER*** Minimum Qualifications: A valid New York State Professional Engineer license and six (6) years of full-time experience in engineering or plan examination, with at least two (2) years in a managerial or administrative role. Preferred Skills: Expertise in large municipal water system operations, NYS Professional Engineer license, knowledge of water quality laws, effective communication with government agencies, strong management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position is open to qualified individuals with a disability under the 55-a Program. Indicate your interest in this program in your application materials.
