Overview
The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the pre- and post-operative care of cardiac patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Responsibilities
Alternating role in the inpatient step-down unit and outpatient clinic setting. Possible travel to outreach clinics in Mount Pleasant or West Ashley while in the outpatient role. This position does not include OR or ICU patient management. Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiology, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief Examples: chest tube placement and removal, bedside chemical pleurodesis, arterial line placement, ultrasound-guided IV placement, wound vac placement, simple suturing, etc. Initiates referrals to other health care providers and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician Documents and bills for direct care provided Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as advanced practice provider students and facilitate learning of other new team members Maintains licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc., as required by applicable policies and state law Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN Preferred Training: Physician Assistant; AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/ACNP) or AGNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) or FNP (Family NP) Preferred Experience: One year as an Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP) preferred but not required Degree of Supervision: APN or PA will have a primary supervising/collaborating physician employed by MUSC and will report to this physician and to the Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current BLS, ACLS; DHEC and DEA license applications started prior to first day Job Details
Job Duties include direct patient care, history taking, examinations, and management in inpatient and outpatient settings Hours per week: 40; Rotating inpatient (12.5-hour shifts) and outpatient (8-hour shifts) with night and weekend availability Patient population: Inpatient and Outpatient; ages 18 years to death Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent required with specialty area experience; RN licensure and Nurse Practitioner licensure in SC; BLS required Additional Information
