Job Summary

The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the pre- and post- operative care of cardiac patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The APP will join a busy Cardiothoracic Surgery division that includes 6 cardiac surgeons, 4 thoracic surgeons, 10 residents and 15 APPs. The division performs CABG, valve replacement, robotic heart surgery, left ventricular assist device placement, heart and lung transplant, lobectomy, esophagectomies and more. Alternating role in the inpatient step-down unit and outpatient clinic setting. Possible travel to outreach clinics in Mount Pleasant or West Ashley during outpatient role. This position does not include OR or ICU patient management. Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations. Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results according to practice guidelines. Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with privileges and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief (examples: chest tube placement and removal, bedside chemical pleurodesis, arterial line placement, ultrasound-guided IV placement, wound VAC placement, simple sutures, etc.). Initiates referrals to other health care providers and consults with the attending or collaborating physician. Documents and bills for direct care provided. Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice. Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research. Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization. Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as advanced practice provider students; facilitates learning for other new team members. MAINTAIN licenses, certifications, and continuing education credits as required by policies and state law. Qualifications

Required: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and current licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and current licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN (as noted below). APRN License Type/Certification options include AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) or FNP (Family NP) with scope as described in original document. Preferred Training: Physician Assistant; OR AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP) with capacity to care for acutely ill or injured adults, potentially unstable or technologically dependent patients. Preferred Experience: One year experience as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred but not required. Licensure/Certifications: Current BLS; ACLS; DHEC and DEA license applications started prior to first day of employment. Degree: Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing (NP track) or equivalent for PA; RN licensure and official NP certification as required by state law. Other: New graduates must be certification eligible upon employment and obtain certification within six months; maintain licensure and certifications per policy; obtain CNEs/CMEs as required by state law and policy. Continuous ability to stand, walk, and sit; bend, kneel, climb stairs; reach in all directions; use hands and dexterity; vision 20/40 corrected; ability to work in a latex-safe environment; frequently lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs; occasional exposure to dusty areas and confined spaces.
