An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated registered nurse with significant post-registration experience in Upper GI/HPB cancer or cancer services to lead the Upper GI and HPB clinical nurse specialist service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust is one of 2 specialist tertiary centres for Oesophago-Gastric cancer surgery in West Yorkshire and the post holder will participate in and oversee the provision of nursing services within UGI and HPB cancer services.
Main duties of the job
The Upper GI Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist (Lead CNS) holds a leadership role within the Trust integral to the provision of a high-quality service for patients referred to the UGI/ HPB cancer service. The post holder will participate in and oversee the provision of nursing services within UGI and HPB cancer services with support from the Clinical Lead and Lead Cancer Nurse. Job responsibilities
Lead and manage the UGI / HPB CNS team including direct staff management. Provide advice and consultancy, as Lead CNS for the Western West Yorkshire Oesophago-Gastric MDT, in line with local, regional and national guidelines and standards. Lead in the development of protocols and policies and provide support for the Upper GI cancer nursing team to work with other members of the multi-disciplinary teams across the West of West Yorkshire. Qualifications
Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration Post registration qualification / training in area of clinical speciality Relevant post registration experience, including experience of working in UGI/ HPB cancer, palliative care, oncology or UGI Surgery Degree or equivalent level of education or experience Master`s degree or working towards or evidence of study at this level Teaching and assessing qualification Advanced Communication Skills training Independent / Supplementary Non-Medical Prescriber Counselling qualification Skills
Report writing / Presentation skills Computer literate - ability to use Word/Excel/Powerpoint, etc Clinical skills specific to area of specialty Ability to work as part of a team Ability to communicate with others at all levels in the organisation Organised approach to work with ability to prioritise and delegate Ability to work under pressure Mentoring and counselling skills Proven evidence of change management skills Excellent time management and organisation skills Proven skills in teaching individuals and small groups Analytical approach to problem solving and able to make clinical judgements requiring assimilation, interpretation and decisions where there may be a range of options Innovative with clinical credibility Knowledge
