CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST (CNS) – University Hospital, 5A Ortho/Trauma Surgical Unit and 5C Adult Med/Surg, Transplant, and GI. Location: University Hospital – 5A Ortho/Trauma Surgical Unit & 5C Adult Med/Surg, Transplant, and GI. Schedule: 40 hours per week; Day shift schedule M-F. The CNS provides expert clinical leadership to the nursing staff on the listed units and coordinates activities with unit leadership. Responsibilities

Act as the clinical leader for a program or area of nursing practice within Michigan Medicine, applying advanced clinical knowledge, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. Coordinate and guide clinical activities and projects for nurses within the practice area; collaborate with the Clinical Nursing Director on the unit and the ACNO for 5A and 5C. Design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies; maintain current professional knowledge and contribute to nursing practice advancement at unit/system levels. Direct patient care and serve as a reliable source of information on evidence-based, cost-effective nursing practices. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to integrate nursing perspectives into comprehensive plans of care for patients and families. Identify priorities for nursing care for select patient populations and synthesize assessment data to inform advanced interventions. Conduct comprehensive wellness and illness assessments using evidence-based techniques and tools. Lead care conferences or programs for individuals or populations; call interdisciplinary conferences when barriers or length of stay are evident or predicted. Help teams establish working goals, targets, and metrics to document progress in plans of care; align interventions with standards of care. Design and evaluate educational programs for patients, families, and groups; develop methods to evaluate nursing interventions at multiple levels. Evaluate the impact of nursing interventions on fiscal and human resources; analyze economics of care plans for major populations and conditions. Lead and participate in nursing practice and quality improvement initiatives; mentor staff to develop competencies and integrate evidence into practice. Provide formal and informal education for nurses and other health professionals; participate in nursing research and quality initiatives; analyze data from quality reports to identify trends for improvement. Qualifications

Required Completion of an accredited graduate-level Clinical Nurse Specialist program. Master’s degree in nursing with a clinical focus. Adult or Family population national board certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist recognized by NCSBN. Current RN licensure in Michigan and CNS certification. Recent experience assessing, treating, and evaluating patients in a tertiary healthcare environment, including use of devices and pharmacologic treatments as applicable. Resume required for all applicants. Desired Experience in an academic, tertiary care environment and the ability to function independently and as a team member. Strong communication, teaching, and leadership skills; ability to lead complex change projects; data-driven decision making; proficiency in evidence-based practice and quality improvement. Experience designing and implementing competency and education activities for nursing staff; portfolio development; research involvement; and familiarity with Continuous Quality Improvement processes.
