Overview
The Director of RCM EPIC Optimization for Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) leads automation, workflow optimization, and new RCM initiatives within EPIC to improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and patient experience. The role collaborates with operational, clinical, and IT stakeholders to align optimization strategies with organizational goals and best practices. Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Optimization: Develop and execute the EPIC optimization roadmap for Revenue Cycle functions; lead the design, testing, and implementation of workflow improvements, automation tools, and new RCM capabilities within EPIC; champion EPIC functionality adoption to maximize system capabilities across front, middle, and back-end operations; align initiatives with Mount Sinai’s goals including cost-to-collect reduction, cash acceleration, denials reduction, and enhanced patient engagement. Automation & Innovation: Identify automation opportunities across registration, coding, billing, denial management, and patient collections; partner with IT, vendors, and internal teams to deploy AI-driven and robotic process automation (RPA) solutions within EPIC and related applications; evaluate emerging EPIC features and revenue cycle technologies for strategic adoption; identify bottlenecks and implement rapid-cycle improvements. Operational Excellence: Conduct current-state workflow assessments; establish standardized practices; set KPIs, dashboards, and analytics to monitor performance; collaborate with revenue cycle leadership to optimize processes for cost-to-collect, clean claim rates, denial reduction, and cash flow; standardize processes across revenue cycle operations. Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as primary liaison between Revenue Cycle, IT (DTP), and operational leaders; facilitate governance for EPIC change requests; provide leadership, training, and guidance to staff to foster optimization and innovation. Performance Metrics: Track reductions in cost-to-collect, improvements in clean claim rate and first-pass resolution, reductions in denial rates, increased automation adoption, and higher EPIC RCM user satisfaction. Essential Functions: Maintain strong understanding of RC metrics and analytics; lead improvements in performance, workflow, and cost-to-collect; build collaborative relationships with stakeholders; drive governance processes and feedback loops; ensure HIPAA compliance; perform other duties as required by the VP of RCM. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field (master’s degree preferred). EPIC certification(s) in relevant RCM modules (e.g., Resolute Professional Billing, Hospital Billing, Claims, Contract Management) strongly preferred. Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, with at least 5 years in EPIC optimization or related EMR optimization leadership roles. Proven track record of leading automation and workflow redesign initiatives that improve RCM performance metrics. Strong knowledge of front, middle, and back-end revenue cycle processes and best practices. Experience with data analytics, KPI tracking, and business intelligence tools. Employer Description
