This position is responsible for performing adult M-Mode, Two-Dimensional, Pulsed and Continuous Wave Doppler, Color Flow Imaging, Stress (Treadmill and Pharmacologic) Echocardiography, and assisting cardiologists with TEE exams. One must be proficient at writing up preliminary reports for placement in the electronic medical chart immediately following every echo exam. The position requires the performance and understanding of anatomy on adult patients. This position may also involve working at and travel between Swedish Health Services hospitals and clinics.
Performs and understands all adult M-Mode, Two-Dimensional, Color Flow, and Pulsed and Continuous Wave Doppler Imaging procedures on inpatients and outpatients as scheduled.
Able to assist cardiologist during a TEE exam, including thorough knowledge of TEE anatomy.
Performs stress echocardiograms, including treadmill and pharmacological stress echocardiography.
Performs procedures in the cardiac cath lab, including TEE, ICE and transthoracic echocardiograms.
Able to utilize digital echocardiogram recording system, including acquisition of images, writing preliminary reports, and review and retrieval of studies.
Able to utilize hospital based electronic medical record system.
Demonstrates good oral skills to give a thorough preliminary report to physicians, nurses and other medical staff.
Answers the Echo Lab telephones and performs same day scheduling.
Attends reading sessions and assists the cardiologist with the echo interpretations.
Assists with the instruction of all ultrasound student interns.
Is available for after hours call. Carries a pager on a rotational schedule.
Performs inpatient exams at the bedside, which requires the movement of the echo equipment to the bedside area and of furniture in the patients room to accommodate the echo machine. Must be able to assist in patient lifting, positioning of the patient for the procedures and moving patients from stretchers and wheelchairs to the bed.
Recognizes and understands normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy. Is able to perform echocardiographic studies on all age groups indicated above.
Able to move echo equipment to mobile sites to perform echocardiograms and stress echoes.
Participates in the restocking and cleaning of all echo equipment and rooms.
May transport patients to and from departments utilizing proper techniques of body mechanics to protect patients and personal safety.
