Lead growth and development in HDR’s NY/NJ wastewater market within the Water Business Group. Responsibilities include advancing business development strategies, pursuing new clients and projects, client management, project management for key projects, technical input on projects, and staff development. The role requires strong writing, presenting, and speaking skills for client and staff interaction. Collaborate with technical and marketing staff, lead selected pursuits, and serve as client manager for key clients. Wastewater Market Sector
overview: The wastewater market sector is highly technical and diversified, serving municipal, private, water utilities, governmental clients in the U.S. and Canada. HDR’s wastewater market offers services from master planning to operations and asset management. Business Development Responsibilities
Incorporate HDR Water Business Group vision with the market sector to become an industry leader; translate market drivers to Area strategies; build relationships for long-term opportunities. Serve as Client Manager for key clients; engage in industry activities and client development workshops. Promote HDR services to wastewater clients within the Area; participate in the NY/NJ Area Water Business Group Leadership Team. Collaborate on market sector initiatives with Area leadership and pursue cross-sector opportunities (One Water, climate resiliency, sustainability, etc.). Develop and maintain relationships with clients and industry peers; support pursuit strategies and marketing efforts. Staff Development Responsibilities
Mentor staff, strategically assign projects, and support recruitment for future market sector roles. Coordinate staff development with East region leadership and practice groups; drive technical excellence and quality delivery. Program/Project Delivery Support
Assist Area leadership in project delivery; manage client relations and QA/QC programs; facilitate process improvements and work-sharing. Monitor workloads, assist in staffing decisions, review contracts, and support risk management. Engage in QA/QC and lessons learned dissemination; take on project management roles to improve client satisfaction and mentoring. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; professional engineering registration in NY and/or NJ (or ability to obtain by reciprocity). Minimum 10 years of experience in wastewater planning, design, and construction. Strong client relationships and technical background in wastewater treatment systems; experience in strategic positioning and pursuit management. Experience in staff development, recruiting, and professional growth; active participation in industry associations. Ability to work collaboratively with HDR leadership and cross-functional teams.
