Field Service Engineer - Rotary UPS (RUPS) at Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM). The Senior Field Service Engineer – RUPS Systems specializes in rotary UPS power system distribution builds, mechanical and generator integration, system integration, start-ups, and preventative maintenance programs. Requires advanced technical expertise, mechanical aptitude, leadership, and hands-on field experience with electrical control systems and rotating equipment (generators, flywheels). Strong troubleshooting and the ability to deliver high-performance power solutions in data centers, hospitals, industrial facilities, and utility-scale environments are essential. This role focuses on field startup, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of large-scale RUPS systems, acting as the front-line expert for bringing systems online, resolving issues, and providing on-site technical support across North America. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to integrate technologies, commission systems, optimize infrastructure, and ensure seamless operation per customer design and SOO. The role serves as the primary point of contact for field service personnel related to RUPS startup, generator support, preventive maintenance, 24-hour emergency response, and remote technical assistance. Key Responsibilities

Lead and perform on-site startup, commissioning, and preventative maintenance of RUPS systems, including generator integration, flywheel validation, and facility electrical infrastructure. Perform functional testing, load bank testing, system synchronization, and full system validation to meet performance specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues related to generators, flywheels, switchgear, control systems, fuel systems, and coupling assemblies. Document troubleshooting steps and data clearly to facilitate communication with internal and external parties. Coordinate with 3rd party equipment vendors and customers to resolve recurring issues within IEM’s integrated RUPS systems. Interface with clients, contractors, and internal teams during commissioning and acceptance testing. Ensure startup and commissioning documentation, test reports, daily reports, and customer records are completed accurately and on time. Provide technical support during new installations and system upgrades. Train Field Service junior technicians on startup, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and safe operation of equipment. Maintain compliance with safety standards, procedures, and client-specific safety protocols. Communicate with Product Engineering and Design Teams regarding product bulletins, software upgrades, and maintenance factors. Travel to customer sites to lead commissioning activities with junior technicians or perform commissioning independently. Participate in or lead training exercises at manufacturing or field service offices and factory tests as required. Assist with project start-up and resolve punch list items at the jobsite; coordinate with customer site superintendents or project managers to update punch lists and close out projects. Provide detailed field trip reports on onsite issues to manufacturing facilities; collaborate with production, service, and engineering teams to resolve deficiencies. Coordinate with Field Service Leads to schedule additional field resources as needed. Demonstrate ability to manage complex power distribution projects, possess strong technical aptitude, and communicate effectively. Power System Integration

Lead and support field integration of new RUPS and generator technologies with existing infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance. System Optimization

Analyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability of customer power systems. Technical Skills

Proficiency in power/automation programming languages and ladder logic (IEC, Python, Java, SQL, HTML). Strong hands-on experience with rotating equipment, diesel generator systems, and mechanical diagnostics. Electrical troubleshooting experience, including relay testing, load bank setup, and flywheel system commissioning. Experience with load bank testing, grounding, and protective relay testing. Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams. Proficiency with diagnostic/testing tools (oscilloscopes, megohmmeters, etc.). Experience with industrial power system controls and monitoring technologies. Familiarity with communication protocols (Modbus/TCP, OPC, DNP3, ARP, IoT, DHCP, HTTP, IP) and TCP/IP suite. Experience with Loop2k and Modscan; ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes, standards, and procedures. Experience with RUPS power system controls engineering, including ATO programming in PLCs, protective relays, and HMIs. Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to troubleshoot complex power systems remotely or on-site. Basic Qualifications

BSEE or MSEE. Minimum 4 years of field experience with RUPS-UPS power systems, rotary systems, or generator-based power systems. Prior experience in commissioning engineering, power systems integration, or generator field service strongly preferred. 4 years’ experience as an electrical engineer. Professional Engineer (PE) License a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Strong desire to grow with a passion for customer service. OSHA 10/30 certification; NFPA 70E certification. Physical/Mental/Environmental

Physical: Sitting 20%, Walking/Standing 80%. Lifting: Up to 25 lbs. Vision: Field work on IEM equipment; long periods in the field. Mental: Attention to detail in a busy environment. Environment: Field work on construction sites in hot or cold environments. Travel: 70%. Compensation

Hourly range: $50-$55 per hour, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. Benefits
