Job Summary

The

Major Projects Manager

is responsible for overseeing project supervisors and managing large-scale projects from initiation to completion. This role ensures that projects are executed efficiently, within budget, and with the highest quality to meet or exceed customer expectations.

This position requires business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English

to effectively communicate with stakeholders, vendors, and team members in a bilingual work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead strategic planning and execution of capital projects, including technology upgrades, capital equipment installations, automation upgrades, facility expansions, and major construction projects. Manage and support a team of Project Supervisors, overseeing project deliverables and coordinating internal engineering teams, technical maintenance personnel, and contract engineers. Oversee the design and authorization of capital projects, ensuring clear project goals, justifications, cost estimates, and approval processes. Present budget proposals to senior leadership. Collaborate with cross-functional departments, including Maintenance, Operations, Finance, and Procurement, to ensure efficient resource utilization and cost optimization. Coordinate project schedules with production and planning teams to minimize operational disruptions. Provide technical guidance to production teams to optimize costs and operational value. Interface with local and state regulatory agencies regarding zoning and permit requirements. Manage relationships with general contractors and qualify new contractors to ensure competitive project bids. Prepare and present reports on capital project status, budget forecasts, and expansion plans to senior leadership. Ensure clear bilingual communication (Japanese/English) with all stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget while maintaining transparency and accountability. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vice President of Manufacturing.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:

Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English is required. Bachelor's degree in an Engineering-related discipline. Minimum 8 years of engineering leadership experience, with a strong foundation in capital project management. Experience in food manufacturing or a similar regulated industry is preferred. Knowledge of FDA requirements, engineering design, construction, project controls (cost control and scheduling), commissioning, and qualification activities. PMP certification is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

Proven ability to prioritize projects aligned with company goals and objectives. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence teams in a collaborative environment. Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills. Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in both Japanese and English. Experience in change management and improving organizational efficiency.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while performing office tasks. Occasionally required to reach, climb, crouch, stoop, or kneel. Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds as needed. Willingness to work in high-temperature and high-humidity conditions for extended periods.
