Job Summary The Engineer II provides project management and engineering expertise in the design, construction, implementation, and completion of all public infrastructure related projects for the City of Dallas. Overview Engineer II is a licensed engineer conducting planning, design, research, and other activities involving quantitative and qualitative analysis and conventional engineering problem-solving to develop and maintain the public infrastructure and/or fire protection systems of the City of Dallas. Provides project management over design and construction contracts for various infrastructure improvement projects. Coordinates all phases of the engineering design and construction of capital improvement projects. Develops, designs, and reviews engineering plans to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal standards. Creates and follows strict timelines, keeps all parties involved accountable, and escalates issues in a timely manner. Provides advisory council to parties involved and makes critical decisions. Reviews and approves engineering design invoices, submittals, progress payments, and other construction documents. Prepares agenda packages, administrative action packages, and change order packages for engineering design contracts and construction contracts. Collaborates with consultants, inspectors, contractors, engineers, and representatives from other agencies to complete infrastructure projects. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Thorough knowledge of city ordinances, design manuals, engineering standards, state and federal regulations, fire safety codes, and professional ethics. Extensive knowledge of project management and implementation practices and methods. Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences. Extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles, including safety, legal, licensing, credentialing, and innovation. Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships at all levels. Knowledge of contract management and skilled in managing and directing engineering projects. EDUCATION Bachelor of Science in engineering or higher from a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (EAC/ABET). Experience A minimum of two years of progressive engineering experience as a Licensed Professional Engineer. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Valid driver’s license and Professional Engineering License from the State of Texas. EQUIVALENCY Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and six years of engineering work experience after graduation, or Master’s degree in engineering and five years of engineering work experience after graduation, or relevant PhD in engineering with four years of engineering work experience after graduation.
