Overview
Director of Planning, Design, and Construction — University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). This is a hybrid eligible, exempt from the FLSA overtime provisions. Salary range: $100,000 - $140,000 annually, compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position requires leadership of capital construction, renovation, and space planning initiatives aligned with the university's mission and long-term master plan. Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of the campus master plan and capital construction strategy; prepare capital project documents for submittal and reporting to the Board of Regents; collaborate with senior leadership to align facilities development with institutional goals; develop scopes of work for capital construction and controlled maintenance projects. Project & Construction Management: Coordinate and oversee all phases of capital projects including budgeting, design, procurement, construction, and closeout; manage consultant and contractor selection in accordance with procurement policies; ensure on-time, on-budget delivery meeting programmatic and aesthetic standards; oversee closeout, warranties, and O&M documentation. Design Oversight & Campus Architecture: Interface with the Office of State Architecture on state-funded construction; serve as Campus Architect and liaison to the CU Design Review Board; promote architectural integrity, inclusive design, and ADA compliance; maintain A/E guidelines and campus construction standards in line with state codes. Space Planning & Utilization Reporting: Lead campus space planning, analyze space utilization data, manage the space database, and prepare space inventory and utilization reports for stakeholders. Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the Associate Vice Chancellor on planning and standards matters; supervise and mentor project managers and staff; foster service, accountability, and continuous improvement; communicate goals and timelines to stakeholders; provide technical support on ADA, fire safety, and related issues; chair Campus Landscape Committee and liaise with art-related committees. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning, or related field. Significant experience in capital planning, design, and construction with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role; experience managing large, complex projects in institutional or public sector settings. Experience with building codes, permitting, design practices, and project delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, CMAR, Design-Build); experience with capital budgets and project management tools/systems. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. Licensure as PE, RA, or CCM highly qualified. 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or K-12 planning, design, and construction preferred. Experience with alternative delivery methods and Campus Master Plan development in higher education is desirable. LEED accreditation preferred. Benefits
