Position Summary The Reliability Engineer ensures the reliability, availability, and performance of fabrication equipment—including manual and automated press brakes, lasers, turret punches, and roll formers—by applying engineering principles, predictive maintenance strategies, and continuous improvement methodologies. This role drives asset health programs to minimize downtime, optimize lifecycle costs, and support Nortek’s operational excellence and safety goals.
Position Responsibilities
Develop and deploy an asset reliability strategy for fabrication assets aligned to site KPIs (uptime, OEE, MTBF, MTTR)
Lead Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for chronic losses; author corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Establish predictive maintenance (PdM) programs (vibration, thermography, oil analysis); optimize PM intervals using RCM and data trends
Own the critical spare parts strategy: BOM accuracy, min/max levels, and supplier collaboration to reduce meantime to repair
Analyze downtime and cost data from CMMS; publish weekly/monthly dashboards and drive action through tiered daily management
Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and Production to implement design-for-reliability improvements and mistake-proofing
Standardize work for maintenance tasks; train technicians on precision maintenance (alignment, torque, lubrication) and LOTO best practices
Influence equipment specification, selection, installation, and commissioning for new or refurbished fabrication assets
Lead or facilitate Kaizen events aimed at stabilizing flow in fabrication (setup reduction/SMED, 5S, visual management)
Identify areas of improvement and set standards for operator-led autonomous maintenance activities
Ensure compliance with OSHA and Nortek policies; integrate safety and environmental considerations into reliability plans
Accountability for:
Unplanned downtime reduction (%) and MTBF improvement by asset family
OEE improvement for fabrication cells (press brakes, lasers, punches, roll formers)
PM/PdM compliance rate (% on-time) and corrective-to-preventive work order ratio
Maintenance cost per operating hour and critical spare stockouts (count/month)
RCA closure effectiveness (recurrence rate within 90 days) and audit scores for Standard Work adherence
Safety leading indicators tied to equipment (LOTO audits, near-miss closure cycle time)
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial engineering, or equivalent experience
Three or more years in reliability, maintenance, or manufacturing engineering within metal fabrication or heavy industrial environments
Hands-on experience with press brakes, lasers, punches, and roll formers (automation/CNC controls preferred)
Proficiency with CMMS, reliability tools (RCM, FMEA, RCA), and basic statistical analysis for trend identification
Demonstrated knowledge of Lean/CI methods and Standard Work; strong cross-functional communication skills
Experience with the following tools and systems:
CMMS for work orders, BOMs, and asset history; data visualization (Power BI/Excel) for downtime analytics
Condition monitoring instruments (vibration analyzer, thermal camera, ultrasonic tools) and precision maintenance tools
Standard Work documents, visual controls, and tiered daily management boards
Preferred Requirements
CMRP or ASQ CRE certification
Experience implementing condition monitoring routes and analytics dashboards
Working knowledge of PLC/HMI basics to support troubleshooting with Controls Engineering
