Department Overview
The people of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. They handle planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, restoration, and emergency response for PG&E's electric distribution and transmission systems.
Position Summary
This position is represented by the IBEW Local 1245, with over 100 years of experience at PG&E. It may be subject to review by the Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC). Provisional hires will participate in targeted training to achieve journey-level electrician responsibilities.
Note:
According to LOA 23-36, employees hired into these classifications in the San Francisco Division are eligible for a 15% pay premium and a three-year bid lock. Divisions including Peninsula, De Anza, East Bay, and Mission are eligible for a 10% pay premium with the same bid lock period. General Construction (GC) Requirements Applicants must be willing to travel and transfer to different headquarters across PG&E's service area as needed, with no guaranteed return time. Review and modify prints and schematics, lay out materials, and order supplies. Move equipment, perform safety preparations including high voltage grounding. Use power and hand tools for installation of electrical systems, conduit, steel structures, control panels, and more. Operate construction equipment if qualified, including cranes, lifts, and trucks. Use tools like jackhammers and shovels for soil removal and replacement. Remove old equipment and structures using heavy machinery and rigging. Drive equipment and vehicles on-site and between sites as needed. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Overtime may be required. The starting wage for this position is $68.56/hour, based on locality and various factors including skills, experience, and collective bargaining agreements. Qualifications - Minimum: Must be at least 18 years old. High School diploma or GED required. Valid California Class C Driver's License required. Proof of successful completion of a Union Sanctioned JATC Inside Wireman Electrician Apprenticeship required. Ability to work in all weather conditions, and willingness to travel/transfer as needed. Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work in remote locations with potential exposure to environmental hazards. Must wear PPE provided by the company. Provisional hires must pass provisional training within 12 months. CA CDL Class A Permit or equivalent required, with a 150% driver/vehicle ratio. Desired: 3-5 years of journey-level experience in electrical construction. Experience with PG&E construction or utility work. Experience with electronic/mechanical equipment, instrumentation, motor control, high voltage, testing, and troubleshooting. Pre-Employment Testing: Applicants must qualify on all prerequisite tests before applying and pass secondary tests before interviewing.
