Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

located in

Henrico, VA . Reporting to the

Director of Engineering , the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be based in Henrico, VA and will work closely with sales, project managers, procurement, production, quality assurance and other engineers, analyzing feedback from customers to produce or modify product designs. What a typical day looks like:

Meeting with stakeholders to establish their requirements for a new or existing product or mechanical system.

Working with a team of engineers and CAD designers on engineering projects.

Mentoring junior members of the mechanical design team.

Work from concept development and ensure plans meet client needs and engineering standards.

Adhere to the timeline for each project.

Help develop and refine processes and standards for mechanical design deliverables.

Work with CAD software, such as AutoCAD Inventor and/or SolidWorks, to create drawing specifications in accordance with client needs.

Create designs in accordance with applicable regulations, client specifications, industry standards and company norms.

Produce designs focused on manufacturability and assembly while maintaining electrical system reliability, availability and maintainability.

Create prototypes, test them, and analyze results.

Submit project deliverables to relevant stakeholders.

Provide support during the building process to ensure design specifications are met.

Analyze problems arising during manufacturing and recommend solutions.

Present maturity and professionalism when engaging with clients and executive decision makers.

Manage change control.

Responsibilities may include some travel and/or availability outside normal business hours.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).

Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience.

Demonstrable knowledge of UL standards (e.g., UL 891, UL 1558, UL 67, UL 857, UL 1008, UL 62368/60950) as applicable.

Demonstrated experience in the design of electrical power distribution systems (preferred).

Experience with CAD programs such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor & Vault, and MS Office.

Strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of mathematics.
