Department of Transportation Job Description and Duties
Under the supervision of the Branch Chief of the Office of Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO), a Senior Transportation Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Transportation Engineering Technician, serves as the Permit Vehicle Inspector in the Transportation Permits Policies and Compliance Branch. The incumbent coordinates with the heavy haul industry for the virtual inspection of an extralegal vehicle for the Transportation Permit Program. The incumbent ensures that all of the vehicle information is compliant with Caltrans transportation permits policies and procedures, and assigns the maximum allowed weights based on axle width, axle spacing, suspension type, or tire size before issuing a final inspection report to the customer. Position located at 1120 N Street, Sacramento, Sacramento County. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Minimum Requirements
