Senior Mechanical Engineer – UAV Systems | San Luis Obispo, CA (On-Site) We’re seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a fast-growing team developing advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS). In this role, you’ll lead the design, analysis, and testing of flight-critical UAV structures, mechanisms, and assemblies. From CAD modeling and FEA validation to hands-on prototyping and integration, you’ll directly shape next-generation aircraft platforms. This is a high-impact position where you’ll collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust and innovative UAV systems. Responsibilities
Own design and development of UAV structures, mechanisms, and composite assemblies Perform FEA (structural, thermal, vibration) to validate designs Support integration and testing of prototypes and flight systems Conduct root-cause analysis and reliability testing on subsystems Create CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless integration with avionics, propulsion, and payloads Drive DFM/DFA best practices across prototyping and production Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree a plus) 5–7+ years of mechanical design experience (aerospace/UAS/aviation/defense preferred) Strong skills in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar) and GD&T FEA experience (structural, thermal, vibration) Hands-on prototyping and mechanical testing experience Background in composites, additive manufacturing, and CNC prototyping a plus Seniority level
