Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Neuroimaging

Organization: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Beth Israel Lahey Health Location: Boston, Massachusetts (as listed in the original posting) Job Type: Regular, Full time Summary: The Sadhguru Center for a Conscious Planet (SCCP) at BIDMC is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a focus on neuroimaging, cognition, and mind-body interventions. The fellow will join a large interdisciplinary team within the BIDMC and Harvard Medical School system and have a Harvard Medical School post-doctoral fellow appointment. The role involves contributing to ongoing projects in perioperative cognitive sciences and the effects of mind-body interventions (yoga and meditation) on cognition, sleep and brain health, with the opportunity to develop independent research ideas aligned with the center’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Receive mentorship from SCCP senior faculty, Scientific Advisory Board members, and collaborators.

Dedicate effort and use SCCP, BIDMC and HMS resources toward professional career development and potential transition to a faculty position at HMS under SCCP.

Access a wide range of subject populations (clinical, healthy, meditators) to conduct robust studies on consciousness, cognition, and wellbeing in various settings.

Contribute to the core direction and growth of SCCP, especially in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging.

Contribute to educational and outreach activities and expand research networks beyond academic settings.

Mentor research assistants and student interns to enhance mentorship experience.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in related fields such as cognitive neuroscience or other relevant fields.

Track record in experimental design, data collection, analysis, publication, and communicating scientific results.

Verifiable programming skills in MATLAB, Python, R or similar; ability to program experiments in Psychtoolbox, PsychoPy or similar tools for behavioral, fMRI and EEG studies is essential.

Clear, effective communication; ability to work independently and in collaborative teams.

Proactive in seeking interdisciplinary problem-solving support.

Encouraged Qualifications:

Familiarity with research in consciousness, yoga, meditation, mindfulness and other mind-body interventions.

Experience with neuroimaging modalities (MRI, fMRI, EEG, MEG) and analysis of fMRI and M/EEG data.

Clinical or theoretical research experience in sleep, stress, cognitive disorders.

Grant and proposal writing experience; experience presenting to multi-disciplinary groups.

Experience mentoring research assistants and students.

Doctoral degree required; 0-1 years related work experience preferred.

Ability to produce complex documents, perform analyses, and maintain databases; review and summarize scientific literature.

Excellent attention to detail, interpersonal, organizational, writing and project management skills.

Strong data management and technical computer skills relevant to the field.

Decision making and problem solving guided by general instructions with some interpretation; ability to address moderate complexity problems.

Independent action within established precedents and procedures; ability to seek assistance when needed.

Strong written and oral English communication skills; ability to summarize complex information for internal and external audiences.

Team work and customer service mindset; ability to lead and collaborate across functional areas.
