The Space Launch System (SLS) Program in Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking a driven, team-oriented, and customer-focused first-line manager to lead a team of engineers performing engineering and technical production support activities across the Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineering discipline in support of the Space Launch System Program in New Orleans, LA. The M&P team supports the production statement of work at the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans through NCR reviews, engineering specification interpretation and support, temporary environmental control area certifications, and critical processes qualification and support.
This first-line manager is responsible for maintaining and improving internal and external customer relationships related to the M&P statement of work while ensuring engineering excellence and first-time quality in the team’s tooling reviews, test plan development and execution, production readiness support, and NCR resolution.
Position Responsibilities
Manage, oversee, and coordinate the daily operations of a skilled engineering team working across multiple engineering disciplines.
Staff the team with appropriate skills to execute the statement of work within allocated budget.
Manage cost, schedule, and technical performance for the team.
Communicate organizational messages to facilitate work-group, project, or process goals and prioritize work effectively.
Provide flow-down of policies, goals, and expectations from upper management.
Listen to employee concerns and facilitate resolution or relay information to peers and upper management.
Define, communicate, and present metrics on team performance toward program milestones to senior leadership.
Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external customers, stakeholders, peers and direct reports; network with Boeing Enterprise to support the team’s statement of work.
Develop and execute project and process plans; implement policies, procedures and operational goals.
Provide oversight and management approval of technical approaches, engineering products, and processes.
Prepare proposals for impacts on task orders, change requests, and other new scope of work.
Coach, mentor, and provide developmental opportunities to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities; align technical leads with mentees for effective knowledge transfer.
Acquire, deploy, and assign personnel to meet project objectives.
Work effectively on development programs with multi-discipline teams, applying engineering judgment to balance requirements, risks, and costs; negotiate and communicate effectively.
Execute a large volume of work to support critical program needs, including multi-shift production support.
Export / Compliance
The position must meet Export Control requirements; a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required (US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
Export Control Details: US-based job, US Person required.
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a NASA facility. This is a NASA safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
Bachelor's degree or higher.
3+ years’ experience leading or managing an engineering project or team.
Experience working across organizations and cross-functional groups to ensure project coordination, implementation, and completion.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
5+ years technical leadership experience.
2+ years Cost Account Manager (CAM) experience.
Experience with Boeing program management processes and Quality Management System.
Experience providing specialized engineering on a development program; project management experience.
Experience with Space Launch System or NASA programs; Materials & Processes experience; RCCA (root cause and corrective action) experience.
