Job Overview
We are partnering with a leading manufacturer of advanced CNC grinding systems to identify their next Director of R&D and Engineering. This is a senior-level opportunity to shape the future of cutting-edge technology within the aerospace, defense, and industrial machinery sectors. The role is based in Michigan and offers relocation assistance. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of CNC grinding machines, covering mechanical, structural, spindle, bearing, and software integration. Champion innovation, spearheading R&D initiatives that improve machine performance, stability, and efficiency. Oversee CAD modeling, assemblies, BOMs, and simulations using SolidWorks, ensuring robust engineering output. Manage prototyping, testing, and iterative product improvements. Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, vendors, and customers to ensure full system integration. Provide technical support during assembly, commissioning, and field service. Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a high-performance culture. Drive continuous improvement in performance, cost reduction, and workflows. Requirements
8+ years’ experience in machine design, ideally within CNC grinding or high-precision machinery. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred). Strong technical expertise in SolidWorks (3D/assemblies/BOM) and FEA. Hands-on knowledge of grinding technology and manufacturing methods. Proven leadership and mentoring experience. Excellent technical judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills. What’s on Offer
