Director of R&D and Engineering — CNC Grinding Industry
Location: Michigan (Onsite)
Salary: $170,000 — $210,000 DOE

The Role As
Director of R&D and Engineering , you will take ownership of engineering strategy and execution, driving innovation while ensuring excellence in design, development, and delivery. This role offers the chance to lead a highly skilled engineering team and guide projects from concept through to customer delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of CNC grinding machines, covering mechanical, structural, spindle, bearing, and software integration.
Champion innovation, spearheading R&D initiatives that improve machine performance, stability, and efficiency.
Oversee CAD modeling, assemblies, BOMs, and simulations using SolidWorks, ensuring robust engineering output.
Manage prototyping, testing, and iterative product improvements.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, vendors, and customers to ensure full system integration.
Provide technical support during assembly, commissioning, and field service.
Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a high-performance culture.
Drive continuous improvement in performance, cost reduction, and workflows.
What We’re Looking For
8 years’ experience in machine design, ideally within CNC grinding or high-precision machinery.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
Strong technical expertise in SolidWorks (3D/assemblies/BOM) and FEA.
Hands-on knowledge of grinding technology and manufacturing methods.
Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
Excellent technical judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
