Overview
3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants looking for a senior-level tooling and manufacturing expert who can bridge the gap between product design and mass production for high-end electronic devices (like Surface, Xbox, or similar consumer electronics). This person must own the entire tooling lifecycle — from early design feasibility, tool design, vendor selection, prototype validation, to full production readiness — while ensuring premium quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency. Core Responsibilities
Tooling & Process Strategy : Investigate and select the right tooling and manufacturing processes for new product designs (plastics, metals, composites). Evaluate
manufacturing feasibility
early with design and industrial design teams. Identify, assess, and manage
tooling and manufacturing vendors
(both domestic and international). Review tooling designs, negotiate costs, and ensure on-time delivery for prototypes and production tools. New Product Introduction (NPI) Lead
PPAP
and sign-off on new tooling and manufacturing processes for production. Support
ramp-up to mass production , ensuring yields, cost targets, and quality goals are met. Process Optimization Continuously improve tooling and manufacturing processes for
better yield, reduced cost , and
faster turnaround . Integrate new finishing and fabrication technologies (PVD, anodizing, NCVM, etc.) into product builds. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with
Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Procurement, Supplier Quality, and Program Management
to align on design, cost, and manufacturability goals. Required Qualifications
Education:
B.S. in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering (or equivalent experience). Experience:
8+ years in
medium-to-high volume manufacturing/tooling
for
consumer electronics
or similar high-precision products. Technical Expertise
Tooling Processes Compression / Liquid injection molding Finishing techniques : PVD, NCVM, anodizing, plating, painting, polishing, etching CAD & Analysis 3D CAD (Pro/E or Creo preferred) Capable of reviewing and approving
detailed tool designs Manufacturing Knowledge Cost estimation, prototype tooling, yield analysis Deep understanding of
part manufacturability and cost drivers Proven success managing
