Cardiac Sonographer – Emerson Health Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Cardio/Pulmonary/Neurology and working under the immediate direction of the Physician(s), the Cardiac Sonographer performs a wide variety of Diagnostic Cardiographic testing on patients. Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic cardiographic testing (e.g., 2D, M-Mode, Doppler Echocardiograms) as ordered by physicians. Interpret echocardiographic findings in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Explain the purpose of echocardiographic examinations to patients and address questions as needed. Maintain thorough knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, pathophysiology, hemodynamics, and embryology to recognize normal and abnormal structures and blood flow. Maintain knowledge of ultrasound physics, instrumentation, tissue characteristics, and measurements of blood flow. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and ensure accuracy of documentation. Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a Certified Ultrasound program is required. Cardiac Sonography certificate program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or equivalent required. Minimum of two years experience performing and interpreting 2D, M-Mode, and Doppler Echocardiograms. Vascular Ultrasound experience preferred. Licensure and/or Certification: Current RDCS or RCS registration required; or registry-eligible with RDCS or RCS achieved within 6 months of hire. BLS healthcare provider required. Skills
Strong communication skills and ability to explain procedures to patients. Proficiency in medical terminology. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Understanding of cardiovascular and thoracic anatomy, physiology, and related concepts to assess and recognize abnormalities. Knowledge of ultrasound physics, instrumentation, tissue characteristics, and measurements of blood flow. Computer skills and ability to maintain confidential information. Education & Certification
As above in Minimum Qualifications (CAAHEP-accredited program and RDCS/RCS as applicable). Experience
