Overview

The Communications Technician II must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Company safety and quality standards. Responsibilities

Install a work area outlet for floor, modular furniture and wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks). Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards. Build closets (mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels). Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set. Identify active voice or data circuits. Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete projects. Fully complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required). Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Complete other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalency; minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and ability to supervise others; proficiency with listed tools; ability to interpret blueprints and project documents including specifications, reporting and quality requirements; knowledge of universal communications color codes; meet Company minimum driving standards. Physical and Mental Requirements: self-motivated, positive, professional; ability to promote company culture and mission; act as liaison with customer representatives; strong problem-solving, critical thinking, reading, writing and oral presentation skills. Physical demands: able to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds; color vision, ability to read small print; audible tone recognition; willingness to travel within branch/state territory as needed; regular attendance is mandatory. Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool with 110/66 block blades, tone set, and 6/8 position combo crimp tool. Experience level: Minimum Years of Experience 0-2.
