Position Summary

We are excited to be part of the Vineyard community managing Bella's grocery store. A Lee’s Marketplace Assistant Bakery Manager is responsible for supporting the Bakery Manager in the daily operations of the bakery department, ensuring the production and presentation of high-quality baked goods. This role involves staff supervision, inventory management, production planning, product display, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The Assistant Bakery Manager also plays a key role in customer service, ensuring excellent service and that products meet store standards for freshness, quality, and presentation.

Primary Position Duties

Assist with production, development, preparation, and maintenance of Bakery items in accordance with recipes and quality standards. Oversee daily bakery operations, including production schedules and workflow. Assist with maintaining inventory levels and ordering supplies to prevent shortages. Ensure shelves and cases are filled, fresh, rotated, faced, and cleaned. Assist with training and supervision of bakery staff, fostering a positive team environment. Educate customers about Lee’s Marketplace bakery products and services. Maintain training and certification by attending in-person trainings and using digital training platforms. Process and complete orders digitally and in person. Monitor sales and profitability; implement strategies to increase revenue. Assist in budgeting and cost control, including labor and ingredient expenses. Other responsibilities as needed.

Guest Service

Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner; provide knowledgeable answers to inquiries. Promote a high level of morale and professional communication with guests and team members. Provide excellent guest service by acknowledging guests promptly and processing orders accurately and promptly. Demonstrate problem-solving skills and align with the Lee’s Way philosophy. Assist customers with use of the Lee’s Marketplace website as needed.

Product Handling

Stock shelves and maintain displays; ensure product freshness and proper rotation (FIFO). Unload deliveries and organize stock rooms; check quality and expiration dates. Store perishable items at correct temperatures and manage dry ingredients appropriately. Maintain accurate inventory of baking supplies; ensure proper labeling of pricing, ingredients, allergens, and expiration dates. Oversee display of baked goods and minimize waste through production planning.

Cleanliness and Safety

Maintain a clean and organized workspace; follow safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure allergen labeling and cross-contamination prevention. Report safety hazards or equipment issues; assist with accident reporting as needed. Adhere to food safety regulations and department cleaning responsibilities.

Cash Handling (if applicable)

Operate cash registers; handle transactions accurately; follow store policies on returns/exchanges. Ensure security of cash and financial transactions.

Team Collaboration

Work cooperatively to achieve store goals; participate in meetings and training; assist other departments as needed. Maintain professionalism and support the Lee’s Marketplace Mission and Core Values. Follow policies, procedures, and handbook guidance; promote a harassment-free environment and timely evaluations and feedback. Be a professional example for all team members.

Position Requirements

Experience: 2+ years retail scratch baking preferred Age: 18+ Food Handler's Permit Required

Availability

Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

Stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing/walking; manual dexterity; ability to access all areas of the store.

Tools and Machinery

Commercial mixers, pallet jack, wheeler, trash compactor, ovens, fryers, slicers/knives, wrapping machine, scales, sheeters, trays/pans/racks, tempering tools, temperature-controlled rooms, computers, and phones.

Education and Skills

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Retail/guest service and food service experience preferred; leadership experience preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills; ability to train and develop staff; good math and organizational abilities; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
