Overview A Telecom Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing, and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders. This includes assigning tasks, ensuring high-quality installation, and performing quality inspections. Monitors task completion, compliance, and safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Oversees a crew of five or more technicians and apprentices. Requires work experience installing equipment using hand tools and power tools, a working understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints, and knowledge of codes and standards. Candidates should aim to become qualified BICSI Technicians. Telecom technicians are full-time employees with company benefits. Responsibilities Knowledge of and understanding of safe use of hand tools and power tools. Wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Following safety policies and procedures. Participating in daily safety and work briefings. Installing various types of low voltage cable. Installing, inspecting, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and related equipment). Surveying and documenting existing telecommunications infrastructure. Sketching rack, floor, and wall elevations. Participating in design reviews to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality project outcomes. Installing, powering up, and connecting fiber uplinks of network equipment into telecommunications cabinets/racks. Calculating grounding conductor, conduit sizing, and raceway layouts. Producing 4-week look-ahead plans including productivity, material procurement, and tracking weekly progress. Training and supervising apprentices in cable installation from Telecommunication Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO) following drawings and run lists. Maintaining accurate as-built drawings and updating them weekly. Performing quality assurance checks on team’s work. Maintaining a clean work area and participating in job site cleanup. Securing tools and materials daily. Up to 25% travel, including domestic and international. Qualifications 6+ years of experience in the commercial communications industry. 18 years of age or older. High School diploma or GED. Excellent safety record, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record. Ability to pass background check and drug test. Reliable transportation. Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test. Experience reading plans and specifications. Strong communication, time management, and organization skills. Punctuality and teamwork skills. Dress code: long pants and shirts covering shoulders (not provided). Provision of basic tools from provided list before employment. Abilities: Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds. Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance. Work at heights up to 60 feet, including scaffolds and ladders. Physical activities: walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead. Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication skills. Using ladders and tools within weight limits. Recognizing potential problems. Applying rules to specific problems and drawing conclusions. Close-range vision and ability to understand spoken information. Desired Skills: BICSI credentials, including Technician Manufacture Certifications and Fiber Certification. Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
